What goes wrong with the original.
Seventy years old. The original bakelite cracks through, and the reproductions on the market are often the wrong profile or come loose because the thread is wrong.

Threaded brass insert matched to the lever, profile taken from a good original, finished by hand. Plain black unless you want otherwise.
